Car Insurance Company Refused Claim for Hit & Run Victim?

A motorist posted on his Facebook page, claiming his car which was parked at the open car park of Queensway Mcdonald’s (Japanese Teahouse) on 27 June 2020, around evening time, was badly damaged at the front bumper portion due to an irresponsible driver who HIT & RUN.

Luckily, there were two witnesses, who volunteered to be his eye-witness, and even shared their in-car camera videos as proof of the HIT & RUN accident, for reporting to the Singapore Traffic Police.

However, what came as a bigger shock was the insurance company that insured the complainant’s vehicle, informed him that he was unable to claim against the HIT & RUN party’s insurance because the said irresponsible errant driver did not report the accident to his own insurance company.

Dear Family & Friends,

I am posting to express my unhappiness and unfair justification by Insurance.

On 27 Jun 2020 late evening, I parked my car at the open space car park of Queensway Mcdonald’s (Japanese Teahouse) for dinner. As I proceed to my car after my late dinner, I was staring without blinking at my car as the front was badly damaged due to an irresponsible driver who HIT & RUN. There we 2 warm-hearted and kind people who witnessed the whole irresponsible HIT & RUN act and they volunteered to be my eye witnesses together with their car cam videos as a proof for reporting this case to Singapore Traffic Police.

Thank you Singapore Traffic Police for their swift actions on investigating the case and they have concluded that the irresponsible driver has committed careless driving and failing to stop after an accident. I sent my car for repair and informed the insurance company that insured me n my car on the accident and request to claim on the cost incurred caused by this accident. However I was traumatized when the insurance company that insured me informed me that I am UNABLE to claim from the irresponsible driver’s insurance because he DID NOT REPORT to his insurance company regarding the accident which I seriously feels that is too ridiculous!

Hence, is insurance company(s) to insure and protect responsible and innocent personnel or to irresponsible personnel? Is this the loop hole ? Meaning to say if I am involved in an accident and I dun report, no one can claim against me?

Please feel free to share or advise on what can be done..

The complainant’s vehicle was badly damaged at the front bumper portion due to the accident

The said motorist (complainant) felt that it is ridiculous for the reason given by his insurance company.
He is seeking for advise on what can be done..
